“These potatoes are delicious.” Having another bite, I moaned in delight. Gemma made them in a roasting pan with onions, butter, milk and cheese. She even added bacon to the combination as it slow cooked throughout the day.

“Justin found the recipe on one of those blogger sites. It really is divine,” Gemma praised his searching skills. “He and Gabe did the majority of the work. I sat back and made cheesecake with Hallie.”

“Cheesecake?” Callum perked up with his mouthful of the heavenly goodness. Gemma smiled, knowing it was his favorite dessert.

“After you finish your food,” I teased him with how we normally talked to Hallie. In all her cuteness, she was the pickiest eater. Even with helping Gemma, she liked to shove her food around her plate to pretend she ate it in order to have the sweeter delight.

Callum stuck out his tongue playfully. “I’d throw my food at you, but it’s too good to waste.”

“Now that, we can agree on.” Raising my water, everyone followed to make the evening even better. There was no delusion as to why things were going so smoothly. Gemma was a miracle, and she needed to know. “Cheers to Gemma finding all of us. I’m not sure where we’d be as a family without her.”

“Cheers!” everyone toasted. Hallie had to follow what everyone else did, but she enjoyed learning something new at the table.

“Oh, well, I think it’s all of you who need a toasting. I still am puzzled that Callum picked me that day at Belinda’s.”

“We wanted you,” Justin interjected. “You weren’t like the nannies who only cared about how big their checks were.”

“They never played with me,” Hallie murmured in disappointment. “They told me I had to learn to play by myself.”

“Yeah, none of them were you, Gemma.” Callum’s eyes twinkled with a different level of appreciation because of what they finally shared before all of this. We were happy for him. Was it weird we were all sleeping with the same girl? It should’ve been, but it felt natural in the same sentence.

“No one will ever be,” Elias added.

“Well, I haven’t felt this level of love inside a home since my mother was alive. Sometimes, I think she sent me all of you in her absence.” Gemma tried to keep her emotions in check.

“It’s been almost eight weeks since you came, but I wouldn’t be sure what life would ever look like without you,” I educated her on my stance about it.

“Maybe my mom and your mom had us both meet,” Hallie leaned over to not-so-quietly whisper to Gemma.

“Maybe they’re best friends too,” Gemma tossed back as Hallie oowed at the idea. Looking at Gabe, Gemma knew the boy needed to be included. “You complete this family too, Gabe. Without your helpfulness and presence, we wouldn’t work the way we do.”

“She’s right,” Callum joined in. “You’re always welcome in our home. Thank you for always being there for my son.”

Gabe rocked side to side in his seat from not being used to the kindness and love we offered the boy.
